Whether you’re striving for success with the management of weight loss or simply trying to achieve better health through nutrition, it’s essential to load your diet with fruits and vegetables. Most are low in calories and fat, yet contain the nutrients you need for all your systems to function properly.
At our nutrition counseling center, we recommend that our members eat as many plant-based foods as possible. Do your best to find fruits and vegetables that you like and eat as much as a variety as possible. In addition to enjoying weight loss, you’ll also reap a wide array of benefits that will make you look and feel healthy for life.
They’re packed with nutrients. Fruits and vegetable are rich in the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Increasing consumption will boost immunity, increase energy, help build strong bones and bolster healthy brain activity. Both fruits and veggies often provide nutrients that are harder to find in other foods. For example, leafy greens like spinach and kale provide vitamin K, spinach boasts folate, and sweet potatoes provide betacarotene, which converts to the ultra important vitamin A.
You’ll get your fiber fill. Many fruits and veggies are rich in dietary fiber, which are the parts of the plant our systems don’t digest. They move slowly through our digestive tracts, which makes us feel fuller longer for less calories than other fiber-rich foods and is ideal for the management of weight loss. In addition, foods loaded with fiber help reduce LDL cholesterol and regulate our blood sugar.
Hydration. Our bodies are almost 80 percent water. Therefore, fruits and vegetables help provide the rehydration we need for our functions, while replacing the amino acids and natural sugars our bodies use during our day and through physical activity.
They help us fight disease. Eating fruits and veggies can help prevent a wide array of chronic illnesses and diseases, such as strokes, Type II Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer.
There’s no better way to attain better health through nutrition. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables is a proven, fundamental component of a healthy lifestyle.
