This can cause weight gain even when you’re sticking to a healthy, low-calorie diet, which can understandably be very frustrating. The good news is, there are ways to burn fat and boost your metabolism so you can get back on the road to better health through nutrition.
Here are five ways our nutrition counseling center recommends to burn fat.
Hydrate. Studies show that when you increase your water intake, this will up your metabolic rate and help you torch more calories and fat. Also, keep in mind that it’s easy to mistake hunger for thirst, so hydrating regularly will ensure that you don’t overeat.
Eat breakfast every single day. Our metabolism slows at night when we sleep, so as soon as you eating breakfast, this ends starvation mode and gets your metabolism going.
Strength train. When you do resistance training, this increases your lean muscle mass. Strength training also boosts your resting metabolic rate, which is the rate that your body burns fat all day long.
Increase fish consumption. Eating fish that is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids is very helpful for weight loss and overall health. You’ll get lots of excellent nutrients and the meal will make you feel fuller so you eat less calories. In addition, research shows that eating fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon, may elevate our moods and lowers levels of leptin, a hormone that is linked to a sluggish metabolism and weight gain.
Boost your lean protein intake. Lean protein is ideal for attaining better health through nutrition. Eating more of it helps build lean muscle mass and requires more energy to digest, ultimately increasing your caloric burn. In addition to revving your metabolism and increasing lean muscle mass, protein-rich meals make you feel fuller longer.
