Apples. Whether they’re pink, red, sweet or tart, apples are a no-brainer when it comes to health and weight loss. Packed with four grams of dietary fiber per serving, these babies help stave off a sweet tooth while packing a nutrient punch like few other foods. They’re loaded with hearty-healthy flavonoids and are delicious when they’re eaten raw or baked.

Brussels Sprouts. Harvested from September through March, Brussels Sprouts yield a host of healthy benefits. They are ideal for those trying to achieve better health through nutrition, as they are an excellent source or folate and iron, and one half cup alone contains your recommended daily amount of vitamin K. When prepared right, they taste delicious—try drizzling some aged balsamic vinegar on some steamed ones.

Cauliflower. Cauliflower makes for the perfect side dish during the winter—so much so that it’s often substituted for mashed potatoes or included in the recipe for them. They are a stellar source of vitamin C and contain antioxidant compounds that help lower cholesterol and prevent chronic illnesses and diseases.

Pears. These babies are so sweet and juicy, they often substitute as dessert. Like apples, they are loaded with fiber—4 grams per serving—and have a high content of vitamin C and copper.

Winter Squash. Our nutrition center recommends winter squash because it’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and is a great source of vitamin A. They have a thick skin so they can be stored for a long time, a fine texture and a sweet flavor that is delicious with a little spice, such as nutmeg, cinnamon or ginger.
