My favorite candy bar is Payday, which is a combination of caramel and peanuts. I don’t need chocolate added to it to make it complete. The Payday for me is the end-all be-all. That’s the reason I was so excited to try to the Atkins Peanut Caramel Cluster Bar. This bar has peanuts and a host of other ingredients, which make up the “Caramel” part of the bar. It’s sweetened by a few different sweeteners, which help make it sweet while keeping the sugar and net carb count low.
The taste was universally popular. I didn’t think it was as good as a Payday, but amongst the various low carb foods I’ve tasted, it was excellent. We’ve tried to keep our food scores relative to other low carb foods. I don’t think the ratings would be as meaningful otherwise. Chris and Lili really enjoyed the bars.
As you can see from the blood sugar graph, there was only a small deviation. Our average blood sugar level only changed by 8mg/dL from start to peak. For some reason, blood sugar levels for Lili and Chris dropped after 30 minutes. We witnessed a similar drop in our blood sugar levels after consuming the Atkins Advantage shake as well. We’ll have to keep this in mind and see if it happens with other Atkins products.
