About

Medical Weight Loss Management Director — Garry K. Kim, M.D.

As a kid, I was pretty thin. But once I got into college, that all changed. I ballooned up to 185 pounds. I was uncomfortable at that weight and grew increasingly embarrassed about my appearance. Since I found myself feeling dissatisfied with many aspects of my life, I made a conscious decision to lose weight. I buckled down and adjusted my eating habits. Over a year and a half, I lost 45 pounds and have maintained my weight loss for more than 20 years. It was one of the greatest struggles of my life, and it took several attempts before I was able to truly commit myself to the challenge.

The way I lost weight and the way I now maintain my weight is vastly different. The landscape of nutrition and weight management has changed significantly, even in the past few years. Our understanding of human energetics, metabolism and fat oxidation (fat burning) has led us to new discoveries about weight loss. New medications and combination therapies also help us control hunger to maximize appetite suppression. These new understandings are what we incorporate into the weight loss programs at the Healthy for Life Centers. It is what helps the clients at Healthy for Life Centers lose more weight, lose it quickly and lose it without hunger.

Why Lose Weight Only to Gain it Back

We focus on not only getting you to lose weight, but helping you keep it off. In fact, our greatest success stories come from helping people maintain their weight loss management for years. Losing weight is so much more than changing what you eat. It’s understanding how the body reacts to certain foods. It’s understanding how certain behaviors and habits develop that lead us to eat. Our nutrition counseling center will give you the means and the tools to maintain that control!
